Frequently Asked Questions

How does sunless airbrush tanning work?

the active ingredient in all tanning products is DHA - aka Dihydroxyacetone. This ingredient reacts with the amino acids on your skin to create a growing affect on the outermost layer of the skin. Full development of color takes 24 hours after application regardless of formulation (standard + rapid). The intensity of the color depends on the concentration of DHA, as well as the individual’s skin type. The color will fade gradually over the course of 7-10 days through natural skin exfoliation just like a natural tan from the sun.

What do i wear during the appointment?

clients are welcome to wear as little or as much as you are comfortable with during the appointment. however, please understand that males of any age are required to wear undergarments during their appointment. No exceptions. be mindful of tan lines. At each appointment you will always be offered complimentary disposable items (ie. Hair caps, nipple pasties, nose filter, thong, and disposable bra) if you would like minimal lines and to keep your own items free of tanning solution.

how long does the appointment take?

Appointments are 20-30 minutes long from start until finish. Your appointment is just you, and I never want you to feel rushed that the next client is waiting outside. I value our time together in and outside of the tanning studio!

do you offer on-location services for groups?

Currently I do not offer on-location services. Our studio location is able to host large groups up to 20 people.

will i turn orange?

People turn orange due to two factors; wrong solution used on clients skin or spray tan artist over saturates the skin with solution. None of those you need to be concerned here at Purely Golden Tans. I select each solution, and appropriate darkness level based on your skin type.

How long will my tan last?

On average, your tan should last about 7-10 days. The life of a spray tan is dependent on 50% on the clients preparations and maintenance while the remaining 50% relies on the artists application and solution selection. Properly preparing and caring for your spray tan by following my guidelines will ensure a long-lasting tan with an even fade.

Can i still get a natural sun tan with a spray tan?

yes. Spray tans do not provide UV protection. Be sure to wear a spray tan friendly sunscreen that won’t strip your tan. Our favorite mineral based sunscreens are SunBum, SuperGoop, Coola and Dr. Plateroti Cosmeceuticals.

How many days in advance should i schedule my tan?

I highly suggest scheduling your tan at least two days before any major events (wedding, photo shoot, etc.) and just one to two days before leaving for a vacation.

Will the tan stain my clothes, sheets, couch, or other fabrics?

I recommend wearing dark, long sleeve, loose-fitting clothing after your appointment to minimize the risk of bronzer transferring to your items. Bronzers are water soluble and should rinse out of most fabrics if contact occurs. Be sure to cover leather car seats/furnishings and avoid direct contact.

is a spray tan safe for expectant or nursing mothers?

I advise all expectant or nursing mothers to consult with their physician before scheduling an appointment. All expectant mothers are required to wear a nose filter, and in addition all nursing mothers are required to wear nipple pasties during the airbrush application. To request an ingredients list of my products to provide to your physician with for review, please contact me via email.
